About the Area

Wondai is located in the South Burnett Region, approximately 230 km north-west of Brisbane. It’s in cattle and grain-growing country and the area surrounding it is popular for the South Burnett Wine and Food Trail, which showcases many of the delights that the region has to offer.

Running Festival Office

The Wondai Art Gallery is just off the roundabout in Wondai and the running festival office will be in the studio at the back of the Art Gallery. This will be the pick up point for race bibs and any queries during the weekend. The first aid officer will also be located here.

Accommodation

There is limited accommodation in Wondai but we recommend the Wondai Colonial Motel (but it may book out quickly) and the various hotels. Please be aware that we have had reports from previous years that the Hotel accommodation can be noisy.

There is a free 48 hr camping facility in the centre of Wondai, but it may be quite overcrowded and the showgrounds have facilities for camping and caravans. They have hot showers, its very quiet and a short walk to town and reasonably priced. Contact the caretaker on or Dennis on  for more information or to book.

Within Wondai there are a number of accommodation facilities, which are walking distance to all events. Murgon is 10 minutes drive north of Wondai and Kingaroy 30 minutes drive south. Both of these have a number of accommodation options.

You can find out more about Wondai and the South Burnett region on the Discover South Burnett website.

Food

Wondai and surrounds have a number of  eating options and wineries, but as it’s a small town, in previous years our runners tend to overwhelm the limited facilities – so definitely book ahead. Wondai RSL and Wondai Colonial Motel do good meals, but please book ahead! The local football club will be hosting a BBQ on the Friday night for anyone who would like to get together before the festival begins.

Wondai Country Dinner

Wondai Country Dinner… we are again running this family friendly event in the Town Hall on Saturday 28 June 2025 – starting at 5.45 pm. Tickets must be pre-booked through the website store -(dietary options available and tickets are already available from our online store and will be capped this year). There will also be a courtesy bus running from the showgrounds to the town hall leaving at 5:30 pm and returning about 8 pm (first come – first served).

It will be a great fun (but not late) night out! We look forward to enjoying the evening with you – and mulled wine will definitely be on the menu again. Please click on the Shop link to book tickets.
