Wondai is located in the South Burnett Region, approximately 230km north-west of Brisbane. It’s in cattle and grain-growing country and the area surrounding it is popular for the South Burnett Wine and Food Trail which showcases many of the delights that the region has to offer.
Wondai was the winner of the 2018 Tidy Towns Award so has a lot to offer.
Running Festival Office
The Wondai Art Gallery is just off the roundabout in Wondai and the running festival office will be in the studio at the back of the Art Gallery. This will be the pick up point for race bibs and any queries during the weekend. The first aid officer will also be located here.
There is limited accommodation in Wondai but we recommend the Wondai Colonial motel ( but it may book out quickly) and the various hotels. Please be aware that we have had reports from previous years that the Hotel accommodation can be noisy.
There is a free 48 hr camping facility in the centre of Wondai but it may be quite overcrowded and the showgrounds have facilities for camping and caravans. They have hot showers, its very quiet and a short walk to town and reasonably priced. contact Dennis on 0427 685 394 for more information or to book.
Within Wondai there are a number of accommodation facilities which are walking distance to all events. Murgon is 10 mins drive north of Wondai and Kingaroy 30 mins drive south. Both of these have a number of accommodation options.
You can find out more about Wondai and the South Burnett region on the Discover South Burnett website
Wondai and surrounds have a number of eating options and wineries but as it’s a small town in previous years our runners tend to overwhelm the limited facilities- so definitely book ahead. Wondai RSL 4168 5297 and Wondai Colonial Motel 4168 5633 do good meals but please book ahead!
On Saturday 26 June we are exploring the option of having a ‘Camp Oven ‘ dinner at Wondai Showgrounds for a reasonable price with live music. There will be a licensed bar but it will be designed with families and runners in mind so very Country and no ‘head banging!!’ and all funds to the QCWA and Wondai Showgrounds Committee.
